Guidance notes
Here are some written instructions on how to create a new page, or if you prefer, there is a video guide at the bottom of this page. You can expand the screenshots by clicking on them. Tips are given in italics.
These notes assume you are already logged into the CMS.
- For an ordinary content page, click on ‘Pages’ in the top right hand corner of the CMS toolbar, then click ‘Page’ from the drop down.
Other page types may exists such as Service. It is important to select the correct one, as page type can determine how a page is formatted, or whether it appears in specific searches on the site.
- Fill in your page name and click ‘Page location’ - this will take you to the site map where you can select the 'parent' page (the new page will appear below the page you select)
Adding a page description at this point will help with search engine optimisation.
You can also add a thumbnail or banner image by clicking "Choose File" under those headings.
- When done select 'Publish Page'. This will make the page public on the site however, if you have not yet finished with the page, you can instead select 'Save Changes' and continue to edit the page later. The page will not be visible to the public.
Add a smart url
- If you want to, you can change your URL so that it's a smart URL. For example, if you want to use a shortened version on published material.
- Select ‘Composer – Page Settings’ in the top left of the menu bar.
- Select ‘Location’ in the left hand column
- Select ‘Add URL’
- Type in your new URL - which is whatever you want to appear after the domain. For example, the current url might be something like "example.nhs.uk/our-services/Diabetes". If you type in /Diabetes into the box, the new url will appear as "example.nhs.uk/Diabetes".
- Select ‘Save Changes’.
You can now start adding content! Click next below to be taken to the next guide.
