Guidance notes

Here are some written instructions on how to split a page into columns.

You can expand the screenshots by clicking on them. Tips are given in italics

These notes assume you are already logged into the CMS.

Add columns

  • Enter Edit Mode on the page and identify the area where you want to create columns. Areas are anywhere you can drag and drop blocks - in most cases, this will be the 'Main' area.
  • On the bottom left of the content area you will notice the name of that area name.
    • Again, this will usually be 'Main'.
  • Click on the name of this area to bring up a list of functions.
  • Click on the 3rd one down, which should be 'Add Layout'
  • This will bring up an editing area which looks similar to a content block, with the top bar allowing you to edit the amount of columns you want.
    • Make sure the settings on the top bar is always using Twitter Bootstrap. If this option is not available then columns have not been enabled in this area.
  • Set the amount of columns you want using the up and down arrows, or by just entering a number.
    • You can then drag the columns left and right making them smaller or bigger using the green dots across the top.
  • You can add as many columns you would like within reason.
  • When you've added the layout, it will create new areas for each column which you can drag any block into.

Edit or remove columns from page

This applies to columns created using the method above.

  • Enter Edit Mode on the page and identify the area with the columns.
  • Hover over the content area with the columns, you will notice on the bottom left there is the name of the 'Column' followed by a number. These are on top of the area name.
  • Click on any of the tabs that say 'Column x' and this will bring up a list of functions.
  • Click on 'Edit Container Layout' which is usually the 4th option down.
  • You can then edit the sizes of the columns, move the columns between other content and blocks, or you can delete the columns by clicking the trash can icon.
    • Warning: all blocks within the columns will also be deleted. So if you would like to keep any blocks, you need to move them out of the column areas before deleting them.
