In some cases, between March and July 2023, Google will create a GA4 property for you and migrate settings from your old Universal Analytics (UA) property.

Alternatively, you may have completed the migration process yourself and opted to use your old UA embed.

In either case, we recommend that you double-check your GA4 property is tracking properly - as after 1 July 2023, the UA property will no longer be a backup.

  1. First confirm that your UA property is linked to this new GA4 property by going to 'GA4 Setup Assistant' in the UA property. This will tell you if you already have a connected property, and give you a button to 'Go to your GA4 property'.
  2. Click this button to be taken to the 'Setup Assistant' for your GA4 property.
  3. From the Setup Assistant page, on the far-left of the page, click the 'Home' icon.
  4. You will now see the dashboard for your connected GA4 property. If this has been setup for more than a few days, there should be existing data showing since the date of the migration.
  5. If your property has only recently migrated, you should see some 'Real time' numbers. You can test this by navigating to a page on the website yourself, and seeing if it tracks you in real time.

If your migrated property isn't tracking

  1. From the dashboard for the GA4 property, click on the 'Admin' cog in the bottom-left.
  2. Click 'Data Streams' - there should be an existing one. Click on this data stream.
  3. On the popup, click 'View tag instructions', and click on the 'Install manually' tab.
  4. Copy and paste the code embed from this box, and send it to us to embed on your website.
  5. Once we embed this code, you can repeat the same steps above and ensure that your GA4 property is now tracking.
