Your website's homepage has been expertly built by our developers to match the signed off designs. It is important that the overall layout and styling of the homepage remains unchanged, so that the website retains the high quality standards that were in place on the day of go-live.
We have a few suggestions around how to maintain the overall quality of your homepage. However, if you want the home page to look significantly different, we recommend you contact Support.
Homepage blocks
The homepage has been built in a particular way, with editable content blocks, and the quality of design will deteriorate if anything 'extra' is added.
- Make use of the blocks that are already in place by editing their images, content, icons and links to keep content fresh and up to date (this could include the homepage carousel banner, thumbnail grid boxes and so on)
- Do not try to add additional blocks or areas of content onto the homepage without consulting our design and development team first. We will be able to make suggestions on what will/won't work and can help with styling new elements using your Support allocation. Some blocks will not have been styled to 'sit' correctly in certain areas of the homepage, so we would advise against trying to edit the overall layout of the homepage without Frank's guidance.
- Banner / carousel - we would advise against adding images which include text, for both accessibility and aesthetic reasons. Screen readers are unable to read 'images of text', and often this text can be obscured by other elements of the carousel, for example link buttons or overlay text. We would also advise that you use images that are in keeping with the overall look and feel of the website (for example, if the website is mainly blue/purple in colour, using bright green/yellow graphics within the banner could look jarring).
Text styling
- Make use of text styles/headings within the WYSIWYG editor, ensuring that these are used according to our content accessibility guidelines.
- We would advise against using the text colour selection tool within the WYSIWYG editor, as it would most likely be the case that the chosen colour would not fit in with the overall website styling, and could cause confusion to users.
