A quick rundown
NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group (UHLG) operates from four hospital sites: Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital, Liverpool Women’s Hospital and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, alongside a host of community services.
Our solution
Our work with University Hospitals of Liverpool Group began with plenty of listening and learning. We wanted to make sure the new website would deliver exactly what their staff, patients, and stakeholders needed, so we started with three weeks of in-depth scoping sessions. Along the way, we gathered insights through surveys and senior stakeholder interviews to build a clear picture of their priorities.
All of this research fed into a detailed report, which helped shape the site’s functional requirements and guided the next steps. We made sure the site structure was practical and user-friendly, adding thoughtful features like tagging services with locations so users can easily find out which hospital provides specific treatments. We also linked patient leaflets to give users quick access to information directly from the relevant Service pages.
The Trust also commissioned fantastic photography, featuring real staff to help bring the site to life. Combined with custom icons for navigation, this gave the site a professional yet welcoming look and feel.
Alongside the main public site, we also delivered a dedicated Careers website, find out more on the careers project page.
The feedback so far has been great, and we’re excited to keep building on this strong foundation. Next up? Developing their staff extranet to foster internal communications and make it easier for their staff to get the job done.

What did they say?
We are delighted with our new website, and we are proud to share it with our patients, staff, and stakeholders.
Ensuring our patients were able to navigate information about our services in a clear and simple way was important to us and working with the team at Frank has helped us to achieve that. Frank also developed our careers site to improve our recruitment experience for future recruits.
Improved interactivity and the use of multimedia has helped to bring our workforce to life and integrating elements like the translate function will help us attract potential recruits locally, nationally, and even internationally. We are looking forward to working with the team to develop our new extranet.
