A quick rundown
Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA) brings together staff and services from Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. They are one of the largest NHS providers in the country, with around 20,000 staff. They commissioned Frank to provide a public facing site, staff extranet and document management system - all on one platform. The Trust had a legal requirement to provide new public platforms for the group within a five month period and it was essential that the new platform would work for all.
Our solution
Understanding user needs
At the start of the project, we worked closely with a wide range of stakeholders, running staff and public engagement sessions to understand what different user groups needed from the new websites.
We collaborated with teams across the Trust to ensure each group’s requirements were met while keeping the overall project on track.
A unified public-facing website
We delivered a public-facing website for this newly formed NHS Trust, which saw four separate care organisations come together under one umbrella. The site balances Trust-wide branding with distinct, colour-coded sections for each care organisation, making it easy for users to navigate and find relevant information. News and events are also categorised, ensuring content remains relevant to each organisation.
A seamless staff experience
To support over 20,000 employees, we built a staff extranet with Single Sign-On (SSO) via Azure authentication, giving staff secure and easy access to internal resources. The site features an icon-led navigation dashboard, helping staff find what they need quickly and get their jobs done efficiently. Each care organisation has its own dedicated hub, providing tailored information such as news, alerts, and key updates relevant to their teams.
A smarter document management system
To support staff further, we developed a bespoke document management system with a policy hub. This allows users to easily find documents by category, with related policies, forms, and appendices automatically linked. The system also tracks compliance and review dates, ensuring staff always have access to the latest procedures. View the policy hub on their website.
This project brought together multiple organisations under a single, cohesive digital platform - improving both public access and internal efficiency.
We have subsequently also delivered a new website for their charity, view our North Care page.
